What is the Citizen's Police Academy?
The Citizen Police Academy is a 12 week program consisting of 23 hours of instruction specifically designed to provide community members with a general understanding of City of Denison and Denison Police Department policies and personnel.

What topics will be covered?
The Denison Citizen's Police Academy strives to provide the citizens of the City of Denison with enough information to help each citizen understand the reach and limitations of police powers in the State of Texas and the City of Denison. To reach this goal a variety topics will be covered including:

  • Police Officer Training Standards and Methods
  • Police Communications
  • Criminal Investigations
  • Courtroom Procedures
  • Texas Criminal Law
  • Texas Juvenile Law
  • Overview of Police Weapons and Tactics
  • And much more...
Who may attend?
While the Citizen's Police Academy is comprised of a variety of community representing every facet of the City of Denison, there are specific eligibility requirement that must be met by every applicant. All applicants must meet the following criteria before admission to the academy is granted. The applicant must:
  • Be a Citizen that Resides or Works within the city limits of the City of Denison
  • Be a minimum of 18 years of age at the time of application
  • Pass a background investigation conducted by the Denison Police Department
  • Encouraged to join the Citizen's Police Academy Alumni Association upon graduation
